Meta Cookie alternate reality snacks

A weird new invention know as Meta Cookie was just unveiled this week in Los Angeles that simulates the visual and sensory experience of a cookie flavor, regardless of what type of cookie you’re eating. A plain cookie is tagged with a visual marker so that the machine can recognize it, then it projects the image of whatever cookie the user has selected onto the marked cookie so that as you handle that cookie, it looks like the flavor of your choice. When you pick up the cookie to take a bite, an air pump on the machine floods your senses with the smell of that type of cookie, which actually makes you think that you are tasting that flavor of cookie.

Captain Scallywag checking in with Trees in the Air for a first time posting. While it is an honor to be brought in to such a high-quality, exclusive blog posting community such as TITA, let me remind you all that 80% of a dragonfly's brain is used for visual interpretation, and they eat mosquitos . Additionally, scavenger hunts are great, here is the first of many.

The next time you find yourself surrounded by hobos, hipsters and haighters - you will make an attempt at completing this great scavenger hunt. Location is key with this one, if you are not in the storied Haight Ashbury district of San Francisco you will fail. Best of luck to all you scavengers and remember, people will do things for you if you tell them it is for a scavenger hunt!




Rules and Regulations:

1. Do this
3. All your sources must be cited
4. All tasks are worth one (1) point unless otherwise noted
7. 14 year olds have had wild success with this
8. Don’t be square, be circular


Things to be brought back:

- find something with the name “HAIGHT” on it (bonus for “Ashbury” on same item)

- find 60 of something

- most obscure free newspaper

- find the largest free rainbow item

- trade your received item for a more colorful item at least 3 times (each trade must be for a more colorful item)

- find $1 item that most represents the 60’s

- find a menu from a restaurant that existed in the 60’s with a circled menu item that was served then (you may have to ask the owner/manager)\

Things to be photographed:

- find the grateful dead/Jefferson airplane house

- find five unique tye-dye items (no two items can be from same store)

- photograph someone born in as many years of the 60’s as possible:

- find a written definition of groovy (not on a screen)

- find a top ten album from 1968 (bonus for title of track 4(bonus-bonus for knowing the chorus))

- start a “honk if you ….” protest and get five (5) honks

- dance to appropriate boombox choreography/give out flowers/sing 'I am the walrus' when appropriate

What the Funk is Milkis?

Well, I'm about to tell you. It's milk soda, and it's made with soul in Seoul Korea, so that you can walk into your local Kim's Asian Market and buy a can of delicious refreshment for 99 cents. If Kim charges you tax, you probably need to shop their more often, buying random asian delicacies to impress Kim with your taste.

Outside of the can is packed with amazing. You can read right on the can that Milkis has a "Fantastic Feel!" I didn't realize what other sodas were missing until now, but it's definitely the feel. Move on down the can and you can tell that Milkis is the "New feeling of soda beverage". Those other sodas you're used to? That's the old feeling. This is a leverage beverage.

Continuing the investigation, the can has two characters on it; on one side a babe with an umbrella, flying through the air, which I am down with. The other, a dude with a balloon, doing yoga or flying or something, but he has a cool hat, so he's got my vote.

Moving on to the inside, Milkis comes in 3 flavors, which is more flavor than some people. There's the original, Melon (fortified with Vitamins A & D), and strawberry. Let's talk about the flavors of milk soda:

Melon: Surprisingly enough, it does taste like melon, but too much so, and too much like melon flavor, not actual melon. Reminds me of floating on a honeydew in a sea of Milkis.

Orig: It's good, not too Milky, not too soda-y. refreshing and cooling, and would go well with desserts in a desert.

Strawbeezy: Easily the best flavor, like strawberry milk that's carbonated, but more in the soda spectrum than the milk spectrum.



So How do they get that delicious Milkis flavor? Skim Milk powder! If you can drink milk in soda form, that's got to be healthy, right? Soon kids all across America will be washing their cereal down with 250 mL cans of Milkis, Having Milkis with cookies, and if they're really lucky, they'll get to go to a farm and get some Milkis straight from the cow's teet. That's the New Feeling of Soda Beverage!

Several weeks ago Trees in the Air received a mysterious roll of film, the contents of which would shake the very bones of those who dared expose it. What was found was no less than one of the best kept secrets in a town that doesn’t keep secrets well at all.

Meet Davis, California – where the beer flows freely out of backyard breweries, where bikes rule the streets and urban chickens rule the sidewalks, where the young, liberal and educated populous tear out lawns in lieu of vegetables and protest the decisions of bureaucratic assholes…all of course, under the watchful eye of a bunch of bureaucratic assholes.

Where are the denizens of this fair town? Where do they who don’t pay a gillion dollars a year to legitimize their criticisms of society lurk? After targeting several seedy demographics as potential sources of information, Trees in the Air hit the jackpot. All signs pointed to North Davis, to the site of a ruined tomato cannery.

Only the vestiges of this once-glorious empire whose mission of preserving things did not include preserving itself remain. At the epicenter of the wasteland stands a giant hollow chamber, invariably used to store massive amounts of tomatoes in the past. And now? A venue for self expression? A place for high school bums to rid themselves of some much needed angst? Or perhaps the greatest spot in the world to climb into and hear every sound you make magnified and held for incredible intervals?
